The IMPACT programme is designed to deliver a national system to support police intelligence, and secure the medium and long term future of the Police National Computer, in line with the recommendations in the Bichard Report. As also recommended by Sir Michael Bichard, the Programme will, in the near term, deliver basic information sharing via the PLX system in the Criminal Records Bureau to all police forces in England and Wales.

The publication of the code and guidance on the management of Police information – MOPI, is also a direct response to the Soham Murders. The code recognises that the effective management of information, held for policing purposes is an essential element in delivering effective policing. In response to these initiative Infoshare are offering a two stage data quality solution to police forces at both a local regional and national level. The solution, based on our ClearCore technology, offers a permanent, data quality solution that sits independently of a forces IT architecture, identifies and rectifies the business processes that cause bad data quality in the first place, and provides a full audit trail of all data changes and updates.

Stage 1 is a Pilot Project, which allows forces to fully understand the current quality of their data. Making the case for action requires the extent of the problem to be measured. In most cases analysts must review hundreds of tables and thousands of data elements from a wide range of disparate systems with a wide variety business processes. They then must separate data from business process and IT issues to measure the level of data inaccuracies. Manual scoping is clearly uneconomic and impractical.

Our Data Quality pilot project automates the process and provides clear unambiguous measurement of data quality and business process problems across the multiple data sources sampled. These measurements can then justify – or not – actions taken going forward. Infoshare’s pilot offers forces an immediate and significant cashable benefit.
