As part of the Connecting for Health (see http://www.connectingforhealth.nhs.uk) programme there is a need to migrate significant amounts of patient health data held in many different and diverse applications within individual NHS Trust to the new NHS data spine to create a national patient record database.
It is our belief that the key to the successful creation of a national database of unified patient records begins with data quality. Even the most elegant system in the world will fail without good quality data. Hence, the familiar saying "junk in, junk out" - the quality of the Data Spine will be as good, or bad, as the data it is based on. It is widely recognised that there are concerns over the quality of the data held on individual applications throughout NHS Trusts
