Fire Research Division of the ODPM to help Local Authority Brigades with risk assessments

New system will deliver more flexible and effective response to incidents attended by Fire and Rescue Service

22 January 2004 - Infoshare in partnership with ESRI (UK) Ltd and the University College of London, has been awarded the contract by The Fire Research Division (FRD) of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) to cleanse data in support of an improved system of Fire Service Emergency Cover (FSEC) across the UK which takes into account risk to life as well as existing safety initiatives.

The FSEC risk assessments will be based on three years incident data obtained from every fire brigade across the country. Infoshare will be responsible for geo-coding, formatting, validating, quality assuring & maintaining all the data, which will then be used to identify the distribution of risk. The long term objective of the FRD is to provide a more flexible and effective response to incidents attended by the Fire and Rescue Service.

Infoshare will convert incident data from 58 different sources into a format that complies with the requirements of the ODPM and the ONS. The incident data will therefore undergo rigorous processing, validation and quality assurance tests to ensure it is fit for the purpose for its applications.

“Decisions about fire stations and fire fighters affect us all. They should be made, and be seen to be made in the public interest. Audit trails detailing the complete history of each record will make the whole data cleansing process transparent,” concludes Adrian McKeon, Managing Director, Infoshare Ltd.
