December 2003 - Torbay Council has received national
recognition from the Improvement and Development
Agency for the creation of its Local Land and Property
Gazetteer (LLPG) using Infoshare’s Streetwise
Professional software, at the NLPG Exemplar Awards
on 2 December 2003.
Torbay has created a fully integrated database
for local land and property data, which is also
linked to digital mapping data. The information
stored is now more accurate and council staff
can locate addresses more easily when carrying
out research in their day to day work.
Bob Clark, Assistant Director, IT Services, Torbay
Council said: "We are making tremendous strides
in modernising our services, and we are committed
to making full use of new technology. There is
a national policy towards e.government, which
is designed to make services more easily accessible,
and we have a rolling programme to achieve the
national targets."
The LLPG data is stored and maintained in Streetwise
Professional and then exported to an SQL server
database. Council staff, using browser software
written in-house then accesses the SQL database.
Torbay Council created an LLPG that not only
cost significantly less than any other solution
but also enables cost effective updates to the
NLPG hub, providing the basis for future development
across all property related systems. It will also
enable partnership working with other government
bodies.
"Infoshare enabled us to achieve a top quality
result in a short period of time, as well as implementing
a gazetteer maintenance strategy that is fully
integrated into the existing council structure,
without budgeting for additional personnel. StreetWise
Professional saved us time and money, and enabled
us to complete ahead of schedule," concluded
Pete Bamber, Project Leader.
